This page was intended to provide access to soccer information for players in the Broome County, NY area that are still interested in playing at a high level. TEST
The experiment is over, as of April 2009. The majority of the players failed to pay their share of the expenses, and I can't afford to subsidize their fun any longer. Too bad. There will be no outdoor team, organized by me, for the summer of 2009. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We do not have an organization yet. We do not have fees, charges, or costs: we operate on a pay-as-we-go basis for league and tournament fees. The idea is to get players together and on the field. Do you want to play at a higher level than recreation? Do you want to be involved in soccer year-round? We are interested in helping adult men, women, and/or co-ed teams that are older than the U-18 level of US Youth Soccer get organized. We do not want to compete for players with any youth soccer club. "We" are Barry Jackson (salsamadness1@earthlink.net), Barry Messina (barry@barry.mu), and anyone else interested. If you are interested, let us know. We need more ideas, more people, more options. The first step: players need to get teams together, sign up, and play in indoor leagues. The closest place to play is the Greater Binghamton Sports Complex. Second Session starts in early February, we have entered one team. Player cost is $50, and some of you still owe me for the first session. Other places to play within reasonable driving distance: Syracuse Indoor Soccer Center Fall session 2 starts Oct 26th, $850, 8-game guarantee. Men's, Women's, and Coed leagues. Wyoming Valley Sports Dome Mens' Open on Sundays. Web site needs to be updated for Women's and Coed. Sports Center 481 web site does not show a Men's Open, but they do have Adult Coed Thursday nights. Now that we have started league play, we can start to measure the level of play, level of fitness, and level of commitment. In the long run, we need to find leagues for 11-v-11 play. The Broome County Soccer Association appears to support players only up to U19. If there's enough interest, we might be able to add an adult league, but we would have to work with the Association leadership on this. So far, we are not organized enough to begin this dialog. The Western New York Soccer Association is affiliated with leagues in the Buffalo, Syracuse and Rochester area, and has sponsored a "WNYSA Select" team. Broome County is within the territorial jurisdiction of WNYSA, so we might want to ask them to sanction adult leagues in our area. WNYSA is affiliated with the United States Adult Soccer Association. The USASA appears to match the State and Regional structure of US Youth Soccer, and teams from the USASA participate in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Is that a high enough level of competition to get you interested? Another large organization that sponsors adult tournaments is US Club Soccer. We are still doing some research on this, because US Club Soccer appears to be aimed more at the U19 and under players. One way for us to measure progress is to see how many players we can get on the Open teams for the Empire State Games. The 2009 Games will be held in the Hudson River Valley region July 22-26. If your goal is to be selected, then we want to support you. Start now, sign up, and play at the highest level possible.
